Aqua Art Gallery, located in Corso Anita Garibaldi, just in the Old Town of Terracina, will inaugurate the Sergio Ceccotti’s exhibition on Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 6.30 p.m. The Gallery, after the exhibition entitled Le sorelle Mazzetti (The Mazzetti Sisters), ended last Saturday, continues to present the biggest artists in the modern Italian painting.
All the works of this Roman painter, in addition to the lyricism of the contents, there are always mysteries to be revealed, enigmas, puzzles: all of them go beyond the trait that depicts the scene.
Landscapes, rooms and houses, glimpses of places, items for everyday sort, are always represented in a sort of dramatic tension, suspension of the apparent meaning, enough to provoke a feeling sick even in the representation of a normality that can deceive at first sight.
Ceccotti’s painting, therefore, moves itself like a sort of hitchcockian suspense that is enriched with wonder, poetry, sensation of looming shadows. In the crooked perspective, there is always something happening or going to happen behind the scenes. In the backgrounds happen possible tragedies: a sinking ship in the calm horizon, a thunder that threatens the dance of a couple with a happy appearance, an open window on a dark interior or closing on an outer space full of omens. Therefore, this calm is only apparent and the reading of the work often alludes to double meanings.
Sergio Ceccotti lives and works in Rome. During all his long career, which began in the ’60s, he has exhibited his works in the Salon de la Jeune Peinture in Paris and in museums and public and private galleries all over the world. He has participated in the National Art Expo in Rome (1986, 1999); in the European Parliament in Brussels (2003); in the Milan Royal Palace (2007); in the 54th Biennale in Venice (2011). The last exhibition took place at the Casino dei Principi in Villa Torlonia, Rome (2014).
