On Sunday, May 13, 2018, 9.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m., in Piazza Santa Domitilla in Terracina), will take place the Appia Day Terracina, archaeological tour organized by CoopCulture and Legambiente Terracina with historical notes about the city and insights on Aemilian Forum, the Cathedral and Capitolium.
Participants will arrive at the Roman Theater on the ancient Via Appia, through Via della Palma, behind the archaeological ruins. From the theater, continuing along Via San Francesco Nuovo, with the City Walls on the left, you reach the Monastery of St. Francis, with its Roman and medieval remains; the Frangipane Castle, which can be seen from the monastery.
Then, there will walking down Via San Francesco Nuovo and Via Anxur, watching the remains of the gateway to the Roman and medieval city, reaching the last stage of the visit, the Colombarium, where we will tell about the sepulchral typologies along the Appian Way.
The tour will end at Piazza Palatina where, according to Pliny the Younger, took place the battle of Lautulae.
